Cake in a pan?

This Sunday my roommates and I made a typical breakfast with eggs, bacon, and pancakes.  As we made the bacon and the pancakes I realized how unhealthy both of these items are.  They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that you should eat dessert for breakfast, well then why do we eat fried cake with sugar or syrup poured all over it?  As the name illustrates, "Pan-Cakes", we are frying cake in a pan.  What is the difference between a slice of cake with frosting and a pan cake with powdered sugar or syrup? Nothing.  Depending on the cake and how much frosting or syrup you use, the amount of sugar, fat, and calories are probably the same.  On that note, who and when did we figure out what dinner, lunch, and breakfast meals go with each time of day.  I feel like most breakfast food is better at night than in the morning. The term is used to describe the breaking of the fast of sleep.  I feel like Americans try to do this by eating as much sugar as they can so it wakes them up, but they failed to realize that 3 hours later they will be sleeping, which defeats the purpose of break-fast.  Based on nutrition facts most breakfast items should not be in that category.  If I ever own a restaurant I will serve fried cake, pancakes, and french toast with every consistency of sugar poured all over it.
