Weiden and Kennedy

W + K has produced some amazing ads for Nike ever since they created "Just Do It". From Michael Jordan to LT, W+K has kept Nike on top in the industry. People just associate good athletes with Nike. Other competitors like Under Armour and Adidas can not compete with the brand image Weiden and Kennedy has created for Nike. This Ad could symbolize what Nike has done against its opponents. Their better is better than your better.

BBH

preview_600_911.jpg

This Ad is similar to the TRUTH campaign by Crispin and Arnold as well as others like Saatchi and Saatchi's British Army ads. All of the ads like this one are difficult to come up with creative strategies, but the premier agencies like BBH never fail to impress. This is a new effective way to resonate with the target audience. The picture of smoke in the shape of "Lucifer" reminds people the evil that cigarettes and other drugs can do to your bodies.

Draft FCB

preview_600_402.jpg

This is one of the best print ads I have ever seen. I think the Ads that nothing needs to be said or written are the most effective. It is a great example of making a boring product come alive. I will always associate this Ad with bug spray and associate OFF with bug spray. Im sure Im not the only one who feels this way... Awesome Print Ad.

Kaplan Thaler

I like this Ad a lot because it gets past all of the clutter you see with regards to automotive commercials. Half way through you start to even feel bad for the tire. Good job by Kaplan Thaler by going deeper than the simple "by my tires because they are cheap" Ads. I now feel that Pep Boys cares for their clients based on this Ad. It reflects on their service and tires to spend the money and the time to advertise as well as they did,

Publicis

Funny Ad by Publicis but I dont have any idea what Hula Hoops are. It reminds me of Grey's Schwepps Ad that never really explained the product, it just assumed you knew. From what I have seen from European Ads, they dont really show what the product actually is or does. I guess it is assumed that we should know what the product is and maybe thats what they intended. Maybe they want us to buy Hula Hoops to find out what they are. The only thing I do know is that you can play with them and they dont have any MSG.

Campbell Mithun

c3829879a4dba4d66bd929ab67ba063a4320eaff.jpg

Campbell Mithun shows the world why Advertising is more than selling a product. Ads like this "Above the Influence" and Arnold + Crispin Porter's Truth ads use creativity to connect with the audience. Sometimes serious subjects like drugs and alcohol need creativity to get through the Clutter. This Ad reaches teens in a way facts and scare tactics can not accomplish.

Crispin Porter and Bogusky

Crispin Porter is my favorite ad agency of our generation. No one in the last 10 years have come close to the successful campaigns that Crispin Porter has produced. This campaign for VW once again plays off of the famous "Think Small" campaign which was changed to "Think Big" and now altered to "Safe Happens". All of them do a great job at getting through the clutter of standard car commercials. They bring to light the aspects of a car most companies dont address. Once again Bogusky and friends did a great job.

22Squared

I like the campaign that 22squared is running for Buffalo Wild Wings. Its main competitor is Hooters. I think this creative strategy works great for competing with Hooters because lets be honest, most guys go to Hooters for the girls less than watching the game. Buffalo wild wings seems like the place for true sports fans that only care about the food and the game. I like the end where the bored looking guy keeps the wave going. It shows the audience that to get away from work and the rest of your life, bUffalo Wild Wings is the place to go.

72 and Sunny

This is an awesome ad done by 72 and Sunny. It reminds me of the Droga 5 Ads because of how they look like they are home videos. They all dont seem like an advertisement at first until the very end where it all comes together.

The Richards Group

The Chick Fil A campaign by the Richards Group never seems to get old. Like many campaigns it has used an animal or a character to get its message a lot, but it is interesting how people seem to have so much more sympathy for Cows instead of Chicken. The Richards Group did do something unique. They are using sympathy for the competitor as their symbol. If you eat more chicken than less people will eat meat (Cows) therefore saving the cows. It is a genius idea. There are few categories where this could actually work and it has worked wonderfully for The Richards Group.

BBDO Bad Advertising

Togs or Undies. This is quite a stretch for an Ice cream commercial. A twist on Summer? Yes the target market is different in Europe but what makes ice cream enjoyable is not. This is a lot like other non Us agencies that dont relate to the product as much as most US agencies do. Dentsu's Tokyo makes alot of ads similar to this.

Doner

salvation3.jpg

This is a clever Ad that really makes you think about how you should do more for the needy. People really do just pass by most of the homeless on our streets. Doner did a great job at making people see that. This also tells people that by giving to Salvation Army they will give to the homeless and you just have to drop the clothes off. Non profit Ads are great for the industry proving that the powerful potential advertising has can be used for a lot of good.

Lowe

Its not more than you need, just more than you are used to. I think this is a very effective and smart Ad because it doesn't over exaggerate like other companies might. It reminds me of the AVIS, We Try Harder ad. Today, no one wants to here that some company claims to be the best. People like integrity and by GMC saying "its just more than you are used to" says to the consumer that at GMC we try our best to make the best automobiles. It says that if your tired of the same problems in your car, switch to GMC.

Mullen

This reminds me of the TM Tabasco ad. Not only are there flies in both ads, but it is another Interpublic Ad where the Agency improves the product's awareness. Its a very small target market that would purchase steel toed boots, but since there are so few ads for a product like this it is very effective compared to the competition.

Deutsch

This is a cool Play Station 3 Ad. I like that they didnt only advertise the gaming capabilities but illustrated bringing your life more exciting with DVDs Games and more. I am surprised that they do not highlight that PS3 offers Blue Ray disc capabilities. It still doesnt compare to the XBox 360 ads "Jump In". People play games to become their character and are able to do things they cant to in real life. XBox ads do a great job of showing that you could be whatever you want.

My Cell Phone Here

BBDO is known for their witty AT&T/ Cingular Ads. It seems that Verizon and Cingular are both trying to show that they both have the best coverage out there. Although it doesn't mention the competitor like their old Pepsi Ads did, it still seems too close to the Verizon Ads. Im surprised that BBDO doesnt advertise their link to the IPhone as much. Everyone wants the new IPhone so I feel that it would be smart for BBDO to make the viewer recognize that Cingular is just as cool and fun as the IPhone. Most consumers are more concerned about the phone itself than the service.

GSD+M Idea City

GSD+M does a great job with clients that serve a purpose greater than just a product, but a cause. With clients like America Red Cross, U.S. Marines, and others GSD+M shows their ability to motivate people to do something rather than buy something. I like Ads like these that actually show how a organization impacts lives. GSD+M does a great job with this. I also appreciate the Ad because it doesnt show people jumping out of Airplanes and killing 100 people because that is unrealistic to what every military man will do.

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Ogilvy and Mather

Ogilvy and Mather does a great job at putting athletes, celebrities, and even super heros into their campaign to show that even they use American Express when they need help. Ogilvy has always done a good job at connecting with the target market. The Dove campaign for example makes the average person want the product because it is for everyone, not just the select few.

Saatchi + Saatchi

Just for having Troy Palamalu in your Ad is a plus. Troy is known for his hair in the NFL and is also known as one of the best defense men in the League. Head and Shoulders picked a class act to promote their product. The Ad by Saatchi and Saatchi is similar to the Wieden and Kennedy Ads with Michael Jordan. The ones with Spike Lee saying "It must be the shoes". I dont know if people are saying it must be the shampoo for Troy, but it is good for their product.

Vitro Robertson

preview_600_393.jpg
The agency from San Diego, Vitro Robertson, does some great work for their So cal style clients. This Ad is similar to Carmichael Lynch's famous campaign for Harley Davidson. They both have that "too cool" attitude and do not require much information in order to get their point across. They have had Taylor as one of their clients for year and have produced great ads from the beginning. With a category like guitars, having a campaign can do a lot for your brand. You talk to anyone that knows anything about guitars, they know that Taylor is the best brand on the market. Vitro Robertson is a key reason for that awareness.

FALLON

Haha Im surprised I have never seen this Fallon ad before. Awesome Ad by a premier agency. Even though Minneapolis is a small market compared to New York or LA, the big 3 agencies in Minneaplois; Fallon, Carmichael Lynch, and Campbell Mithun produce great advertising. Fallon in particular continues to impress with their innovative TV spots. Great Ad

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Carmichael Lynch

As we have seen in their Harley Davidson commercials, Carmichael Lynch effectively shows that there is no substitute to Porsche. Even the sound of the Porsche is incomparable. Only people with discretionary funds will purchase a Porsche and this ad shows them that it is the best machine you can buy. I like that Carmichael Lynch did something different than the average luxury car Ad. It is easy to advertise for a product with such high prestige and popularity, but in order to help the brand you must think differently than before. Carmichael Lynch did that.

Goodby, Silverstein + Partners

This is a bold move by Goodby, to actually create an Ad that makes fun of the product, but Goodby reverses the effect by showing why choosing a Hyundai is a smart buy. It is aiming at a very narrow target market, but it seems to be very effective. Goodby did an amazing job at identifying the problems with the brand and changing it accordinglyThis is a bold move by Goodby, to actually create an Ad that makes fun of the product, but Goodby reverses the effect by showing why choosing a Hyundai is a smart buy. 180 Amsterdam

Just as 180 strated, they continue to be successful with the Adidas Impossible Is Nothing campaign. This Ad also goes along with the recent trend of Ads putting a bunch of stuff together to make an Ad. This Ad shows Adidas customization for their cleats. It is a very cool Ad in that I feel that 180 portrays that Adidas customizes your skills as well as the cleat itself.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

TBWA

This reminds me of the famous IPOD commercials that TBWA and Lee Clow designed. It has a similar background to the original Ipod spots. TBWA has always gave brands characters like the Energizer bunny, Taco Bell Chiwawa, and more. With Pedigree TBWA just had to use the actual consumer, not the buyer. The dogs themeselves are the symbol for the brand. The owners want to take care of the dogs on the commercial with the best food for them

Hill Holiday

dunkin-thumb.jpg

This Ad designed by Hill Holiday exemplifies what most Interpublic agencies are known for. This Ad makes you question the next time you want to fill your stomach by offering a quick snack that isnt terrible for you. Agencies in Interpublic like McCann Erickson, Martin, and more all seem to have an overwhelming advantage to their creative skills and how they communicate it.

Dieste

Dieste is known for its work for the Latin community. A lot of their work is very straight forward like this one in that it doesn't create a brand image for the product. Yes, Pinesol is a low involvement product, but it would maybe more effective to show why Pinesol is more effective at cleaning floors than the competitor. The Ad simply tells the viewer that it cleans, thats about it.

DDB

This is another classic VW Ad by DDB. It has the same sort of message that the other famous VW Ads had, "Think small". DDB advertises VW as the smart, affordable, and virtuous automobile. It tells the viewer that you will be rewarded if you own a VW in more ways than one. It reflect who you are as a person too.

Euro RSCG

The most interesting man in the world campaign is like a mix between the Morbolo Man and The BMW short films. Dos Equis created more than just a character like Tony The Tiger or Sammy the Tuna this even more realistic than the Marbolo man. This should go down as the best Beer campaign ever. This blows the Budweiser frogs out of the water (no Pun intended). I also love how he says "I dont always drink beer...." it makes Dos Equis seem like they know they are the best and they dont have to tell you.

ARNOLD

preview_600_774.jpg

The creative strategy is obvious behind this Arnold WW modern version of DDB's famous Ad. In the 60's "Think Small" was a big hit and changed the game for advertising. Most industry experts might disagree with the version based on Bill Bernbachs master piece, but I feel that it fits our generation. We do live in Texas too, where everything is bigger. Arnolds twist on this is perfect for our generation and for a company that has never really opened their doors for bigger automobiles. Even if younger people have not seen the "Think Small" original, this Ad introduces the new Taureg in a very effective way.

Leo Burnett

Leo Burnett has always been known for their epic characters like the Marbolo Man, Tony The Tiger, and of course Ronald McDonald. McDonalds should thank Leo Burnett for the 35 years they celebrate in the commercial. If it wasnt for Leo Burnett's creativity and the birth of Ronald McDonald, McDonalds might not be where it is today. Leo Burnett is one of my favorite agencies because of their back story and what they have done for brands like McDonalds and Morbolo.

Dentsu

Dentsu must be doing something right to control over 40% of Japan's Ad space. It is interesting to see the differences in the Advertising based on where it is from. Europe has their own style, India, and Japan too. This type of Ad doesnt do much for me, but Dentsu does a great job at identifying their taret market and basing their strategy off what resonates.

T.A.G. San Fransisco

2008JeepAdBoat.jpg

This is brilliant print Ad for Jeep that uses hardly any text. Just as we saw below Agencies in Interpublic like T.A.G. San Fran do great work that expands the image of the brand and product. Simple but effective, this Jeep ad captures the outdoor, adventurous traveler who wants more than a car, but a way of life. I am surprised that the Timberland Ad below wasnt also made by T.A.G.

Martin

One of the smartest things that Martin did for their client Geico is that they ran multiple campaigns at once. In class we talked about the Cavemen, Gecco, and The Money campaign but there is also a few others. I never realized that they were running all of these campaigns, but it is genius. Although it is very expensive, It can reach multiple target markets depending on their taste. One market might like the Cavemen and another might like The Gecco. Also, since it is an insurance company it is important for people to now that you are a large successful company since people are handing Geico their money.

Y+R

This Ford Ad was made to specifically market to the Middle east. Y+R did a great job in my opinion because it brings up things about a car that based on middle east stereotypes are right on. This Ad wouldnt be as effective in America because our market is far too materialistic. We always want the best and to look the best. The Middle east market is much more conservative. Cars advertised as Ferraris would not be effective in the Middle East.

JWT

smir22.png

This Ad stuck out to me because of how simple it is while still portraying its message. The main aspect of Vodka people look for is purity. I think this Ad shows the viewer that Smirnov is perfectly clear and pure. Most Vodka drinkers dont want complex, they want Vodka to be smooth and simple. It doesnt offer the flavor that a whiskey or rum does. Simple works for this product.

Grey

This Schweppes Ad is pretty typical of Grey Advertising. Schweppes is very boring product and seems similar to the Grey agency as a whole. Schwepps basicaly just adds bubbles to water. Grey has traditionally done this for their clients. They take a very one dimensional approach to much of their campaigns. Besides their new client, Nationwide, the talking baby, Grey has not shown much versatility.

Stop Global Warming

waterworldlead.jpg

Ogilvy + Mather (Mumbai)

- The ad pretty much speaks for itself. It is a great visual as if the city was in the pool the kid is swimming in. I actually found this ad in the Badland section, but I still thought it has the ability to make an impact.

AARP

GSD+M Idea City (Austin)
GSD+M has been successful with clients like these, which need to make the viewer think about the reality of the situation. Many of GSD+M's other clients like American red cross, Hallmark, U.S. Airforce, and American Legacy Foundation all are companies that need to relate to the viewer and show why their cause is very important. This is a difficult task, but GSD+M has been successful with such clients. AARP put this ad out to encourage American people to find out the facts about the health care reform. It illustrates how congress is distracting Americans from what is wrong with our current health care. They did a good job at making this topic seem urgent and could possibly help AARP's cause.
Wieden + Kennedy (Portland)
Coca-Cola - Heist - (2009) (USA)
This is an Ad that combines a lot "stuff" to create the conclusion of the Ad. Wieden and Kennedy has done an incredible job with Coke Side of Life. Like some of their other clients such as Nike, W+K shows their brand as more than a brand. They do a great job of making very simple and low involvement products seem to be more than the other competitors. Greyhound did an excellent job of combining beautiful work while accomplishing Coca Cola's needs. W+K continues to impress its viewers with great visual effects and innovative ideas.

Monday, September 14, 2009

McCann Erickson

I like this ad a lot because it gives Heineken the image of, If you want to party and enjoy yourself, Heineken is the beer you should drink. It also relates to the target market by showing all of the experiences, people, etc that the guy remembers. McCann Erickson developes campaigns that are catchy and that stick with the consumer. This is similar to the Coca Cola Ad done by Wieden and Kennedy where it shows the colony of little creatures making a single coke. Our generation is responsive to Ads like these.

In the Can

This is another tasteless beer ad created by DDB Chicago. This is a lot like their other Bud Light ads such as "True Men of Genius". Its hard to believe that Bill Bernbach, the man who famously wrote of his worry for advertising, is the same man who helped found DDB. If Bill was alive today, I am sure he would be embarrassed of this Ad. Bud Light lime could market their new beer in a more politically correct way. Although this ad might get more attention than other beer ads, it is controversial and "Getting it in the can" could be taken the wrong way to most people.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Toyota's Willy Wonka and the green factory

Saatchi + Saachi (LA) and Oasis (New York)
They continue to impress with their visual effects and their ability to match the feeling of the Ad with the product itself. This is a perfect example of advertising made with intrinsic motivation as well as extrinsic. Obviously Toyota wanted a specific end product that will reach their target market, but while watching the commercial it is hard to think that the creator didn't enjoy designing it. I think the best advertising is when the process of developing the ad is intrinsic, while serving the client by accomplishing their goal in a strategic way.
I think this ad accomplished it.
